Bring the Mountains Home:
The Story of Mapcha
1st March 2025
Rooted in the spirit of the mountains, Mapcha is more than a brand—it is an ongoing dialogue between tradition and contemporary design. A quiet statement of cultural continuity, where heritage is not merely preserved but reimagined for a new era. Mapcha’s vision is to bring warmth and joy from the mountains into lives and homes everywhere.
“I started Mapcha to introduce a new design language for visual material rooted in my Tibetan and Ladakhi heritage. I recognised a lack of intentional, high-quality products and sought to fill that gap. Through Mapcha, I began creating pieces that bring me joy—deeply inspired by my heritage yet designed for the modern space. Not overly complex, but guided by clean lines and meaningful details drawn from our art, architecture, and traditions. Thoughtful, everyday objects that spark conversations about culture, with each object carrying a story. I wanted to create a space that celebrates my culture and brings it to a global audience—a space open to fellow creative collaborators, a space to tell our story. This is what Mapcha is. In fact, Mapcha could be just anything as a brand.”

A Philosophy of Mindful Living & Our Values
At Mapcha, craftsmanship is a language—one that speaks of devotion, lineage, and the hands that shape each piece. From the rhythm of the drapes to the precision of hand-carved silver, our collections are imbued with the essence of those who create them. We do not simply design and curate; we honour the history, heritage and story – evolve, and share. The things we choose to surround ourselves with should be imbued with meaning, designed to be lived with and passed down. At Mapcha, we embrace the beauty of restraint—objects that breathe, materials that age gracefully, and designs that endure beyond trends. Slowing down, choosing intentionally, and embracing the essence of craftsmanship. Sustainability as responsibility.
The truest form of luxury is one that respects both people and the planet.
From encouraging empowerment to celebrating inclusivity and equality have always been at the heart of Mapcha. Be true to yourself and express your creativity! This ethos echoes the vision of our inspirations and continues to be our message today. It also resonates throughout our organization as we remain committed to allowing every individual to shine, regardless of gender, age, or self-identification
Culture is Not Static. A Deep Reverence for Himalayan Artistry
Our collections embody this philosophy, where Himalayan artisanship converses with modern sensibilities. The weight of history meets the clarity of minimalism, creating pieces that belong both to the past and the present, to the mountains and the wider world. Objects of meaning, not just possession. Designed for those who value craft, longevity, and quiet luxury. Artistry that meets the highest standards of quality and refinementWe honour the intricacy of Himalayan craftsmanship while embracing India’s rich artisanal legacy, creating a dialogue between these two worlds. Every textile woven, every brass carving, and every hand-finished detail carries the imprint of tradition—steeped in history, yet constantly evolving. Mapcha is a bridge between cultures, between past and present. As we grow, we remain committed to bringing these art forms to the world—celebrating the skill, patience, and beauty behind each creation and ensuring that these traditions continue to thrive on a global stage.
The Origins of Mapcha
Founded in 2018, Mapcha set out to reimagine traditional Himalayan artistry for contemporary living. The name ‘Mapcha,’ meaning ‘peacock’ in Tibetan, reflects the brand’s ethos of beauty, grace, and cultural symbolism. At the heart of Mapcha is a commitment to quality craftsmanship and mindfulness. Each product is thoughtfully designed in collaboration with skilled artisans, ensuring that every piece tells a story from the mountains. This approach not only preserves traditional crafts but also introduces them to a global audience, fostering appreciation for the region’s heritage. The flagship store, nestled within the Tibetan enclave of Majnu ka Tila in New Delhi, offers a tranquil haven amidst the bustling energy of the area. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the serenity and beauty of the mountains, experiencing firsthand the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity that defines Mapcha.
Crafted in the Himalayas, Rooted in India
At the heart of Mapcha lies the hands and stories of the people who bring our vision to life. From the high-altitude landscapes of Ladakh to the workshops of master craftspeople all over India, our pieces are shaped by generations of knowledge and an enduring connection to place. Mapcha’s designs are not bound by time; they are meant to be lived with, cherished, and rediscovered. Patterns drawn from sacred motifs, natural textures, and centuries-old craftsmanship are reinterpreted with a fresh perspective, breathing new life into heritage. As we move forward, we honour what has come before, allowing the past and present to merge in a seamless dialogue of design, culture, and storytelling.
